How to Create a Healthy Work Culture in Your Agency
Wondering if your agency's work culture is healthy? Curious if your employees can thrive and your clients are satisfied? The truth is, every agency already has a culture—whether it's good or bad. Unfortunately, many agents allow their culture to develop from the bottom up, resulting in dysfunction and lost profits. As a leader, you have the power to shape a positive culture from the top down.
Creating a Positive Culture
As a business owner, you have the ability to create and establish a culture that allows your employees to thrive. A healthy work culture improves both the employee and client experience. Let me share a personal story to illustrate this.
Lessons from Qualtrics
Back in my glory days at Weber State University, I was a member of the marketing club's presidency. We toured Qualtrics, a billion-dollar company near Provo, UT. As soon as I walked in, I knew it was an amazing place to work. The front area featured a half-court basketball court where employees could shoot free throws or engage in activities to lighten up their day. The owner, a huge basketball fan and now the owner of the Utah Jazz, made sure the workspace reflected his passion.
Beyond the basketball court, Qualtrics had floating conference rooms, glass walls, and open cubicles that allowed employees to work freely. The cafeteria offered diverse lunches, and meeting halls were designed to encourage collaboration. Throughout the tour, every employee I spoke with loved working there. This vibrant culture was a top-down effort, fostering a sense of community and excitement.
Real-World Insights
In my tenure as a Field Training Consultant, I've visited countless insurance offices. Most felt like funeral homes, like people were dying to be there. However, a few offices stood out, where I knew I would love to work. The difference? These agents genuinely cared for their employees and created a positive culture that clients could feel the moment they walked in.
